Maclean’s has ranked universities around the world for 30 years to provide important information so students can choose the institution that best suits their learning needs. 

The magazine ranks schools with more than 1,000 full-time learners, those that are not restrictive due to religion or a specialized mission, and schools that are members of the national association Universities Canada. The rankings are based on recent and publicly available information.

There are three categories the universities are placed in: Primarily Undergraduate, Comprehensive, and Medical Doctoral. The list is compiled from a survey given to senior administrators, university faculty, and various businesspeople across Canada. They were asked their views on innovation and quality at the different institutions.

The University of Toronto was ranked as the number one university in Canada for the sixth year. The seventh oldest university in the country was founded in 1827 and has produced several prestigious graduates, including four Canadian prime ministers. Ranking second on the list, The University of British Columbia has a campus in Vancouver and Kelowna.
